External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs)
ECBs are loans taken by Indian companies from foreign lenders in foreign currency. FEMA and RBI regulate ECBs by specifying who can borrow, from whom, and under what terms. It?s a source of low-cost funds for large-scale infrastructure or corporate projects but must follow strict end-use and repayment guidelines to avoid foreign debt misuse.
