A Sybil attack happens when a single actor creates many fake identities or nodes in a blockchain or network to gain influence or disrupt consensus. It undermines decentralized systems by manipulating voting, reputation scores, or resource control, and poses a serious threat to the integrity of peer-to-peer networks.
