Politically Exposed Person (PEP)

A PEP is an individual who holds or has held a prominent public position, such as a senior government official, politician, or judicial officer. Due to their position and influence, PEPs are considered higher risk for potential involvement in corruption, bribery, or abuse of power. Financial institutions apply enhanced due diligence measures when dealing with PEPs to prevent misuse of the financial system for illicit purposes.
