Non-Participating FFI (NPFFI)

An NPFFI is an FFI that neither registers nor has a Model 1 IGA. Such institutions are subject to a 30% FATCA withholding on U.S.-source withholdable payments. NPFFIs may also face reputational and operational consequences, encouraging most FFIs to comply.
